Mother of slain State Dept official told attack was about the video, wants answers
The mother of slain State Department official Sean Smith appeared on CNN begging for answers, asking what happened to her son in Benghazi.
She says all the officials she met with told her the attack was about the anti-Islam video and that she still is not sure what happened to her son or how he died.
COOPER: So you don’t even know the cause of death?
SMITH: I don’t even know if that’s true or not. No, I don’t. I don’t know where. I look at TV and I see bloody hand prints on walls, thinking, my God, is that my son’s? I don’t know if he was shot. I don’t know — I don’t know. They haven’t told me anything. They are still studying it. And the things that they are telling me are just outright lies.
That Susan Rice, what — she talked to me personally and she said, she said, this is the way it was. It was — it was because of this film that came out.
COOPER: So she told you personally that she thought it was a result of that video of the protest?
SMITH: Oh, absolutely. Absolutely. In fact all of them did. All of them did. Leon Panetta actually took my face in his hands like this and he said, trust me. I will tell you what happened. And so far, he’s told me nothing. Nothing at all. And I want to know.
Obama links himself to MLK: “A Legacy of Hope”
Obama supporters and protesters were out in last night in San Francisco as he visited the Civic Center, trying to raise money for his campaign.
Among the items being sold was a button with the faces of both Martin Luther King and Barack Obama, and what appears to be a background of the Lincoln Memorial, with the caption “A Legacy of Hope”.
The button is being held by an Occupy live streamer who was upset what he saw as the presumption of Obama to so link himself to Martin Luther King.
The button then had an unhappy encounter with the Occupier’s foot on the Obama face:

This one takes the cake.
At the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Charlotte, they will have pictures of such American icons as the Statue of Liberty and Mount Rushmore.
Apparently President Obama has such a high opinion of himself that there is also a sand sculpture of him, erected at the DNC at the EpiCentre entertainment complex, seemingly in imitation of Mount Rushmore. It consists of 15 tons of sand trucked in from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

This raises interesting questions, such as how much must this have cost? What was the effect on the beach, environmentally? And how big an ego do you have to have to try to imitate Mount Rushmore while you are still a sitting president?
Let the jokes begin! Shovel ready job, house built on sand, no graven images, etc…
Update: Looks like we raised a good question about the sand removal. The Morning Spew reports that back in 1998 the Army Corp of Engineers spent $60 million of public money to put sand back into the beach!
I would want to know how 15 tons of South Carolina beach ended up at the DNC Convention in Charlotte, NC. It’s also puzzling that Democrats, who consider themselves bastions of environmental policy, would actually think that digging up a beach for this purpose was a good idea, especially when beaches remain a fragile habitat for many types of endangered wildlife.
Since the original 1998 replenishment, the beach was replenished in 2009 as well in order to protect people and property from storm damage along the shore. According to the US Army Corps of Engineers, it is scheduled to continue to be replenished with Federal, state and local money through 2046.
We will let you know when we track down exactly where the sand came from in Myrtle Beach.

We earlier noted that there was a report the sculpture was being taken down. From what we can ascertain at this point, there was a sculpture being built in front of the Ritz Carlton around the corner from where it is now. They had been working on it for weeks. A couple of days ago, they decided it needed to be taken down for “security reasons”. That is a different one than this one (perhaps even more sand!). So as far as we know at this point, this one is in fact still up. Thank you, Sister Toldjah!

Again, can’t make these things up! Sand Obama is no more! A torrential downpour hit Charlotte this afternoon and washed it away, according to the Washington Times. No joke, apparently.
We should note that apparently this sculpture was sponsored by Myrtle Beach, obviously with the hope of improving tourism. The team that put the sculpture together was reportedly Team Sandtastic. We are sad for Myrtle Beach that this happened, and hopefully, they have another option to advertise. Hopefully, also, that means that someone had some sense about where the sand came from.

Reports of Sand Obama being washed away were somewhat exaggerated. He is damaged, but still lives, dented and in need of repair. Kind of like the President himself.

What does Obama mean when he talks about “spreading the wealth”?

White House claims Occupy collusion emails were “mistaken”
In an interview with Victoria Taft on the Victoria Taft show KPAM radio at AM 860 , Judicial Watch spokesperson Tom Fitton announced that the White House had responded to the growing scandal surrounding their decision to ”stand down” from enforcing the law against Occupy lawbreakers.
The scandal was revealed when Judicial Watch, having obtained documents through the FOIA act, discovered emails between the GSA(General Services Administration) and the DHS (Department of Homeland Security). Occupy was illegally camping on federal land administered by the GSA. While camping on the land, and other land in Portland, they created multiple problems, including threatening reporters and vandalizing local banks. Taft also spoke of the “420 tent” that was at the Occupy Portland where people went to get stoned.
The emails revealed GSA Commissioner Robert Beck saying that they had consulted with the WH and were “standing down” from enforcing action against Occupy. See more here.
Now Fitton has said the White House has responded, claiming, despite the emails showing White House collusion, GSA Commissioner Beck was “mistaken” about the White House’s approval for standing down from enforcing the law.
Fitton and Taft expressed incredulity that the White House could be taking that posture, given the emails.
The White House and prominent Democrats, such as Nancy Pelosi, have made various endorsing statements about Occupy since its inception, most famously, Nancy Pelosi’s statement, “God Bless them”. Most of the people who started Occupy have a background in Democratic or leftist causes including with ACORN, SDS, SEIU, the Wobblies, Code Pink and the Democratic Socialists of America.
Occupy has been involved with over 7500 arrests as of the current date, everything from disorderly persons charges up to murder. Nationally, the damages resulting from various Occupy actions exceed 40 million dollars. In LA alone, in a state bordering on bankruptcy, Occupy has cost the city over 4 million dollars.
Lanny Davis, former Clinton aide, “vicious people working for the president”, warns possible meltdown of campaign
Wow. Lanny Davis, former Clinton special counsel and spokesperson, eviscerates Obama campaign tactics in an interview on “The America’s Radio News Network” today.
Davis is upset with the Obama campaign tactic of attacking the prior administration and attacking Romney rather than talking about Obama’s record. Davis also criticized attacking people who have been supportive of Obama, like Cory Booker, because those people say things that the campaign may not like.
Davis refers to the “vicious people working for the president” and “kool aid drinking people”. He then goes on to say, “There is a very serious problem within the Obama campaign and you’ve just described it. It may be melt down unless they come to their senses.” Davis goes on to describe that people in the Obama campaign are dropping “F bombs” about Mitt Romney to journalists in their efforts to attack Romney.
Obama urged Jeremiah Wright to stop speaking, ally offered him “hush money” to shut up

Excerpts released today from the new book “The Amateur” by Edward Klein, reveal that an ally of presidential candidate Barack Obama offered Rev. Jeremiah Wright $150,000 to keep his mouth shut until after the 2008 election.
Wright, who was Obama’s pastor in Chicago, became problematic during the campaign after sermons attacking US came out. Among Wright’s most damning sermons to come to light during the election, he said the 9/11 attacks deserved that they were “America’s chickens are coming home to roost.” He also encouraged people to sing “God Damn America” rather than “God Bless America”
“After the media went ballistic on me, I received an e-mail offering me money not to preach at all until the November presidential election,” Wright told Klein, according to the New York Post, which obtained the excerpts. Klein asked who sent the email, and Wright responded that it was one of Obama’s “closest friends”. According to Wright, this friend sent the offer to one of the members of the church, who sent it to him. The amount offered was $150,000
Then Obama himself got involved with a personal plea to Wright to shut up. Klein asked “Did Obama himself ever make an effort to see you?”
“Yes,” Wright said. “Barack said he wanted to meet me in secret, in a secure place. And I said, ‘You’re used to coming to my home, you’ve been here countless times, so what’s wrong with coming to my home?’ So we met in the living room of the parsonage of Trinity United Church of Christ, at South Pleasant Avenue right off 95th Street, just Barack and me. I don’t know if he had a wire on him. His security was outside somewhere.
“And one of the first things Barack said was, ‘I really wish you wouldn’t do any more public speaking until after the November election.’ He knew I had some speaking engagements lined up, and he said, ‘I wish you wouldn’t speak. It’s gonna hurt the campaign if you do that.’
“And what did you say?” I asked. “I said, ‘I don’t see it that way. And anyway, how am I supposed to support my family?’ And he said, ‘Well, I wish you wouldn’t speak in public. The press is gonna eat you alive.’
“Barack said, ‘I’m sorry you don’t see it the way I do. Do you know what your problem is?’ And I said, ‘No, what’s my problem?’ And he said, ‘You have to tell the truth.’ I said, ‘That’s a good problem to have. That’s a good problem for all preachers to have. That’s why I could never be a politician.’
“And he said, ‘It’s going to get worse if you go out there and speak. It’s really going to get worse.’

Excerpted from The Weekly Standard: Access to the Obama White House is in direct correlation to the amount of money donated to the president’s reelection effort and the Democratic party, the New York Times reports today.
The Times reports: “those who donated the most to Mr. Obama and the Democratic Party since he started running for president were far more likely to visit the White House than others. Among donors who gave $30,000 or less, about 20 percent visited the White House, according to a New York Times analysis that matched names in the visitor logs with donor records. But among those who donated $100,000 or more, the figure rises to about 75 percent. Approximately two-thirds of the president’s top fund-raisers in the 2008 campaign visited the White House at least once, some of them numerous times.”
But the most explosive allegation in the news story comes from former Democratic congressman Patrick Kennedy, son of the late Ted Kennedy, who calls what the Obama White House is doing “quid pro quo.”
